Good, good, good. It's been a fun, fun, fun week. Uh the Karas household. We've been getting ready for our um our kiddos to go back to school. I've got friends in Tennessee that they've all gone back to school already. Um their kids, their kids out. So we're getting ready to go back next week.

It's like, it's like summer's last hurrah. You know, whereas I envisioned it getting ready for, you know, getting the kids more normalized.

One of your kids wanted to have a sleepover tonight, and we're like, oh, no, we'd we'd love to, but the the girls have been doing pretty good of I think most nights. I'm not gonna lie, we've been starting now at like closer to eleven o'clock at night. And so it's been like sorry, I went off on a tangent thing.

This is this well and this was I think part of the being just fathers and dads. Exactly, exactly. I mean then that all wrapped around music, you know, and then and then you know, shows and posters and all this cool shit. Um, you know, so so for sure. You know, so we're and we both got you know, we we we both are the fathers of t of of of two girls. You know, so so you know, we have a a unique set of of um of uh experiences and challenges, right? Well, I mean, you know, I mean you and I talked about it and that you know in a in a way I'm trying to bring back this kind of 80s style of parenting, you know, which is which you know isn't beating your kids or nothing like that, but it's it's it's you know, a little bit maybe more autonomy, you know. Um a little bit more freedom to to to to experience things, you know.

I mean and you know, I want them to you know, they they certainly have their tablet time and that, you know, but um um but isn't it crazy, like as a just I know it's it's part of it, but I think you know, with parenting now and it's use a tablet as a thing that you take away now for grounding almost, it it sucks, but it's like it's part of the new norm. It's weird.

Totally. And it and it also doesn't seem to work worth a shit sometimes. You know, where they're like, well I don't care. It's like you know, and it's funny, it's actually and the funny part is I'm actually kind of proud of that because I'm just like, well good, then you know, and and then they go but then they go and play with something, you know, or they go outside or something, you know, and we force that stuff anyway, you know. But but um yeah, you know, no, that's awesome. I think it's funny too. So but uh but speaking of that, maybe we segue, you know, those 80s style of parenting. Maybe we we we get into a a band that seems to recycle and rejuvenate itself again and again and again since its inception in the 80s. Yes, and tonight we're talking about Gore, right? Yeah, we're doing it. So like I I will and and maybe Jeremy, should we should we talk about the beers that I'm I don't know you you you're drinking yours already? I've been sitting here here. I'm gonna there we go, people. All right, Jeremy, what do you what do you what are you drinking?

Yeah, that's uh that that that sounds delicious. The guava, the goes, and it's kind of like a probably um it's very tart. Yeah, it's gonna say a tart salty mix, you know, because it goes kind of uh kind of too. So but but um but uh I was excited that you know even though here we both reside in St. Louis and our two previous podcasts have have um have featured St. Louis based beers, um independently we came together tonight with Minneapolis beers, which I was super excited about, and I think that's super coincidental. So uh I'm I'm trying to, you know. Um yes, I would love to try this. Yeah, thank you, thank you. Um oh, that's really good. That's really good. So I don't have anything as fancy. So um what you heard me deliciously crack open there a minute ago. I'm drinking um a grain belt northeast, and this is a simple American amber lager. Here we are, like I said, representing Minneapolis uh based breweries tonight. So there we go. So you want to talk about some uh some gore action?

Yeah, so um I believe I brought this one to our attention, right? Like to go to this show. You did, you did.

What attracted you?

You know, my first time ever seeing hearing the band, I remember just like just sitting on the floor in our um living room in Tennessee, you know, being able to watch MTV, seeing Guar on MTV, seeing one of their videos, and just being like, Holy shit, what is this? It's music, but then theater. Who are these characters? Yeah, what's going on? And it I d I knew nothing about them. And so uh don't even recall the internet being around in ninety-two or what, you know. I don't think it really started catching on until like ninety-five, ninety-six. I couldn't go and look like who was this, or what you know, you saw Guar, and it's like, but you didn't know anything about them. And so just seeing I can't even recall what the video was, but it it all looked uh, you know, gnarly and like home video-esque.

Because yes, now that you say that, I do remember that the cheesy videos on um on MTV, and it was probably from scumdogs of the universe, you know, ultimately, you know, what whatever.

But uh but it could have been the shortest snippet of of anything. But it was like I just recall, I think a year prior to you and I being at a show or something or even you know, just seeing the poster for what you know, it looked like it was uh uh Star Wars themed, like for for the for them coming to St. Louis that year. And so to me it was like kind of like I was like, oh, it pulled me back to that memory of childhood. That's great.

So so so when you mentioned it, you know, um out of everything we've we've done thus far, you know, it was definitely one where where um I don't have the the the um you know certainly the the I don't know the music you know nearly as much, you know. I mean other than hearing that and you know hearing like a you know yeah, I mean I don't even know if I could call anything that they'd have a radio hit. Um but um but when when you but when you mentioned you know them and and doing this, um there was um you know like uh my first thought was oh they're still out touring? Um interesting. Uh and and so so a little a little peek to the past in Jay's life. Um I I have seen them. Um I uh saw them somewhere in the early 2000s at First Avenue, which is a club in in Minneapolis. Uh um uh one that they played multiple times over the years, uh and multiple people have played there over the years. Guy, we can have a whole show on First Avenue. It's like the CBGB of the Midwest. Um and uh but I don't remember any of it, Jeremy. I was fucking wasted. That's awesome. I mean, like um full honesty, man. You know, I yeah, you know, and and I I do not remember much of that night.

How did it happen? How did you like like uh end up at the show and you know fully enemies?

Dude, it was much much much much how I ended up at the show in 2026 and that a buddy, a buddy said, Hey man, you want to go to Gore? And I was like, is that those fucking guys that like that spray blood and come all over you at the s you know in the audience? You know, and and and and I mean they do, you know, they they have some catchy you know rock. Um, but but that was what I remembered was was you know the character, you know, the you know, the gore-gore, you know, and and and and that kind of thing. Um, you know, and again, the the fluid, which we'll certainly get into more of here, probably. I hope not. But I mean we to No, I'm not gonna be spraying fluid on each other, you know. Maybe our beers.

But maybe we we in all honesty, like, you know, we we we stayed in the back. We stayed very close. Oh yeah, yeah.

My yeah, my yeah, I was not gonna do that, you know. Um I did get I I do remember getting um a little bit blood covered at the the when I did see them at First Avenue.

I do remember that. Like you said, if it's a smaller venue, then you know it's yeah, I mean I'm sure if you're even in the back or close, whatever.

Yeah, well, you could avoid it, you know. I mean, you know, I mean First Avenue is you know factory-ish, you know, in that oh okay. Um yeah, you could avoid it. But I was I was my early twenties, and and and I was you know, I was on drugs and I'm a man, I'm gonna do what I want. Yeah, and my own man. And yeah, like I said, I was I I had a great time. Um too too much of a time, too good of a time. But um, yeah, anyway.

Yeah, so so but but uh but yeah, so uh so I was kind of looking forward to to kind of you know kind of s Rametta thing. Right, yeah, right, but uh up front knowing that I was gonna be like you said, that we were gonna be kind of at the back. You know, getting nowhere near the uh you know uh you know, the the battle.

Yeah, any spray of any sort. Um but yeah, like I have to say, hands down, like I was impressed. I think the show was phenomenal, like from the the storyline of you know Gorgor and you know the egg and all that, and just the every theatrical element was they they had it down, man. It was just really cool to sit and watch fans like still go nuts for this band.

Yeah, well, and and you know, I mean, us being in our late 40s, it it's fun to see, you know, the you know, um for all intents and purposes, see myself, you know. Um see that wasted that wasted younger self, you know, coming out of the pit, um, you know, covered in in again, you know, blood and whatever, you know, but uh yeah, it was it was it was really cool, you know. And again, that you and it was it's funny that you say that. You know, I uh they uh I I completely agree with you that they they just really put on a great show and and the music, you know, even you know the there was the few songs that I knew, like a couple of them, and and but every they they rocked it on all of them. But but what was funny was that um I found myself really um trying to to to get a peek of of the of the um the mechanics behind how they were able to to essentially deliver you know you know what seemed to be 50 to 100 gallons of fake blood, yeah, you know, um and later come but mainly fake blood. Um you know uh and I actually did read up on this later on that you know that they've as you would hope, you know, they've been doing this long enough that they've they've perfected the methods of how to pump massive amounts of fake blood in in short periods of time, you know, and so they they literally have um you know big 80 hundred gallon tanks, you know, that they're swapping really fast, you know, between songs, and um, and I was able to actually witness with my own eyes them kind of like popping, you know, essentially air hoses, you know, so they have a quick, like almost a quick release system, you know. So again, my old 40-year-old ass was interested in the in the logistics of blood delivery, you know, fake blood delivery, you know.

So but they gotta do it on the spot and you gotta do it in in sync with whatever the band is doing and and all that. I think it, yeah. Um I think it's you know it's a valuable art form too.

Well, yeah, well, yeah, for sure, for sure. And and just I think any of the us kind of technology nerds, you know, can always kind of walk into a a venue or or any kind of place like that, and you kind of find yourself just kind of scanning, you know, and seeing, oh well, what do they got? Yeah, you know, what are they doing? Well, I think too with their especially the video and the film side, you know, the video and film side for myself.

I think I remember I think it was like Ghost when we went to saw when we saw Ghost back in like uh say like twenty twenty-two or something. I can't remember when, but like, and I was like, how much do you think all that all those monitors? And he's like, Well, you're like, just that one is about this much, so you could calculate it. And I was like, Jeez. But that that stuff still is amazing. Like I love that. The the theatricals of I think um you know, a lot of bands they really rely on that that video aspect of you know making which Squire did too. They took, you know, they used the video monitoring system, but you got more of an experience looking directly at that station.

You didn't go, I mean, I mean, yeah, yeah. I mean, I think you're right. I think any band, any, any that video is is certainly part of most touring, you know, experiences now for most bands. Um, but the simple reality is, as we all know, is that war doesn't need it. You know, you're not there, we're not going, you know. I mean, we're not going to Gore, you know, to to see visuals, you know. Um, you know, we're well the visuals that we're we're that we're there to see are those characters, you know, played by human beings in these costumes. Yeah. And then and then of course the novelty of excuse me. The novelty of of again getting sprayed by by you know fake bodily fluids.

Yeah. So so I know that you had a really uh awesome experience that I missed out on because I went to to go check out the merch area when I finally realized it was kind of cleared out and I started wandering over there. Um and I come back and you're like, dude, you missed it. Like uh what's it um uh Grossimus Maximus?

Grotius Maximus, yeah. So Grodius Maximus came up and grinded on you, little solo action. Or he he said he played around in your area.

He came and stuck his guitar right up my butt. Oh, and I missed it. Oh yeah. Oh no, no. Um, no, no. I think he just came through. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, I mean, you know, I mean now playing in the audience, right? I mean, wireless man, wireless now, dude. Yeah, so he was just, yeah, he you know, I I think I was yeah, it w it I was at the bar. You know, I was at the bar and and um and he he had come but out, you know, and then and then had come all the way back that far and was kind of and was walking along the back. Yeah, you know, and it was like, oh, you know, and I'm I'm surprised, you know, when it in hindsight I should have offered him a beer, you know. I was gonna say, you know, the put the problem is is he obviously can't drink the beer and continue to play, so you know, that's awesome. Pick. But uh but yeah, I know it was it was cool, you know. I mean I think anytime a uh you know any anytime a band, you know, um there's that always that barrier, you know. I mean, and there's nothing wrong with it, but your band on a stage, you know, barrier, audience. Anytime the band can can kind of break that, you know, and feels you know, you know, most bands won't really do that, you know. Most big artists aren't gonna do that for safety purposes, you know, but but not grotius, not grotius maximus. No. Um, no, so I think that's cool, you know, and it's it's fan engagement. Them spewing blood on you.

You know, they've uh you know they've you know they've they've had their dolls of um Clinton, they've had their dolls of um of um of uh Trump, uh but multiple figures uh they've yeah, Obama, uh yeah, Obama, all of them. You know, um Biden they've yeah, yeah, Biden, they've they've they've done everybody.

So Jeremy, let's talk about now you know, as often the process is, you know, we've decided to go to the show. Now we've we've obviously just talked about our experience at the show, but what inspired you to create this show's poster?

You know, but I just kind of saw this immediately. Like Were you into comic books?

There's a couple that I have that I've collected, but I d I don't think that I they're worth anything. Like I cla I had the whole Indiana Jones, because I'm a big Indiana Jones fan, and so there was a a series of comic books that came out um you know in the eighties around then and I still have those. Yeah. Same thing. I think everyone bought the lat when Superman dies, you know. We all bought that fucking comic book.

Anyway. Like exactly. It's like I got into it like for the art form, and I always appreciated the the the beauty of it.

The the beauty of it and I they now have comic books out, which were an amazing reference guide to be able to like go back and like just I've got, you know, you know, all their stuff is online, so just access to all this beautiful artwork. So to me it was like, you know, but how can you top this? Like you you can't. There's there's just so much good artwork out there for them already. But to me, I was like, you know what? They are running with a press photo, you know, the whole band all on a white background, and it was just for an artist, beautiful reference shots, just all this stuff. And so to me it was like like what can I fit in this space? What's most important? I'm like, I love always trying to try to work in like the location of what's going on. Like if it's w any of the venues that we've gone to in St. Louis, having something St. Louis in it. But for me to this one, it was just like it's there there's no need for it. It's just it's fucking guar like busting through rocks like coming up out of the ground like to me like I I just saw it and I saw it like a comic book cover.

You know I mean you know you know it it it it you know in it you explaining that you know what uh reminded me that yeah yeah this is probably one of your your your least geographic you know um specific posters you know at least by by the look of it and and that is perfectly fine because because of the subject matter that you're working with and um um it it by I think I think out of uh uh uh uh you know uh it it's it you were able to put so much life into this poster um uh I think it was a complete success what you were what what you were able to can uh accomplish and and and I don't I don't I don't want to hijack anything here but um but I I also want to say that this is the only poster um that I personally have of his of Jeremy's here where um there was also a version that is just the just the the sketch version um yeah I want to say black and white but but I think that's probably the wrong term but but um yeah it was just ink basically yeah just ink and and it's and it's just as amazing um well I mean it's uh just as amazing I mean but it but it is amazing in its own way so I'm glad you brought that up Jay because there's a reason I did that too.

Plain white t-shirts it's like these kids were offering themselves as a canvas. Exactly and so my thought was like well what if I just gave it as hey here's the white version like so um these these were ones that I gave out after the show. These were the my ten ten uh you know free giveaway that I give after every show ten free posters so gave that when we gave those out like you can actually watch the video on my Instagram where you'll see me kind of like oh my god like that was probably one of the fastest giveaways I ever had. Yeah that was like uh yeah I literally said who wants a free poster and puts to the flame I put my hand out like a bucket like with the bucket and you'll see it and like everybody I think I even saw in there somebody got two. I was a little a little peeved as the artist. Oh really? Yeah I saw somebody in the and I feel really bad because there was a guy literally in the video you can see it like he's like I'm right here I'm right he's standing right behind me and uh so if anybody can recognize who that guy is I will literally send this guy a free poster that's what I would like to do.

Yeah yeah free posters yeah for sure for sure if you're out there we got one for you I think it's a beautiful work of art like uh like all of your rest and but I was um you know I every time every time you you you kind of reveal um you know you reveal these to me in in in their various stages of the process um you know they're you know um all of them I'm always amazed but I I do truly remember with this one when you sent that um just the amount again just what you were able to to get inside of that frame inside of that canvas I was just you know jaw wide open you know jaw dropped yeah you know uh again I I I can legit say that about really any of your posters but but this one um I was just truly amazed and this one was was um all of yours are hanging as you know as you know at our um at our family lake home um uh but this one was my uh my my my the most f favorite to uh to to add you know I think it yeah it's just it's great.

Yeah yeah um you know um you know uh again this was this was a great experience and um and uh I was happy to be more sober than I was um the first time um I will probably not see them again even though I hope that I really do hope and that's what's cool is it seems like it's a collective it's an art collective it it's it you know and that was always one thing that was that the actually the more that I looked into these guys you know too was like was was the fact that that you know it is these really professional artists you know um you know not just a bunch of party animal band you know musicians which there's nothing wrong with that but yeah yeah but um but but they've continued a legacy but it's not about and it's not there's not a big name behind it or even not a small name you know but I mean most bands consist of the same members more or less for the duration of that band. And some bands, you know I mean maybe even the Rolling Stones for instance I mean get the get the pla get the the rare privilege of going on for decades. And Gore I think could be one of those two but it's not going to be the same it's not the same artist. Well no no it's not the same level it's not the same artist. And that's the thing is that I think Gwar there's not I don't think there's really any of the same original artists from what I understand. I mean they've just they recycle all the time so long story short Jeremy um I hope that I see them touring at the pageant um or wherever in 10 years from now I'm not gonna be attending that show but I I hope to see them out there you know and um and that's and and good for them. And and and and you know again I think this was a show that it was more about the visual aspects of that more than having a love of the music per se. But with that said um you know these guys they were rocking it like you said.

Oh dude and and I had a blast yeah and I had a blast too yeah I I think that yeah people kind of miss that those ex I think people you know that that are like I don't listen to that it's like you're closing yourself off to something that is like an artistic experience to me. Like that's one of the things I love too that like hey we're gonna go see this band and it's like hey you know it may not be in our total wheelhouse but I think that you and I just we're still there about the experience. Yeah. So yeah.

Well I mean and and even beyond we'll end this here but um but um you know even beyond this I mean I'm just a lover of live music you know um and and I just I love to find myself just even just wandering into something that's just live music even if it's a you know a cover band or whatever, you know?
